SHE HAS NO TEETH TO BRUSH!

What do you mean, I need to brush my baby’s mouth?

She has no teeth!

Brushing your baby’s mouth should start even BEFORE she has her first tooth. After each feeding (whether breastfeeding or formula feeding), wipe your baby’s gums with a soft, wet cloth. The bacteria which causes cavities start to develop in your baby’s mouth beginning at birth. The bacteria latch on to areas like the tongue, gums and even tonsils. By wiping the gums after you feed or nurse your baby, you reduce the amount of “food” remaining in the mouth, so less bacteria will be able to grow there. You can use any soft, wet cloth or even gauze to do this. One great option is Baby Buddy Wipe-N-Brush, which also has xylitol – which also reduces bacteria in the mouth.

Once your baby starts to get his first teeth, you can move on to a silicone finger toothbrush to help brush those little teeth. This is a better option than a regular hard plastic toddler toothbrush as baby will most-likely be biting down as you are trying to brush, and the plastic may hurt her gums. The silicone toothbrush goes around your finger and the bristles can also help to massage her gums to help relieve teething pain!
